This lovely curly kale, Scarlet, has dark green leaves with red veins, as the weather cools the colour becomes bolder. Enjoy this as a delicious salad leaf when young and leave some plants to grow on for hardy and richly flavoured winter greens (tall to 90cm or more).
SOW & GROW: for salad leaves you can sow undercover all year round. Pinch off young leaves for salads as soon as the plants reach 5cm tall.
To grow some on to maturity sow March to June, in modules/pots or a seed bed and transplant to growing position when large enough (about 5 weeks) and plant at 50cm apart. Keep them watered in dry weather. Use some young and leave the rest to grow tall (80-100cm). Cut from October onwards
