This is a great, robust and reliable, late cropping kale. Hungry Gap comes in to its own in March when fresh greens are in short supply - this is a tasty crop to fill the gap in the veg harvesting calendar be it in salad, stew, soup, stir-fry or as a side veg.
SOW: July/August, seed depth into 10-15mm in modules, pots or a seed bed. When large enough (in September October time) transplant & space at 50-75cm apart.
GROW: harvest from early spring by cutting young leaves from several plants; don’t take too much from one plant. Regular harvesting encourages young growth over a longer period: side-shoots can be harvested at 10-12cm. Stop when flowers buds form.
ENJOY: traditionally served with egg and fish dishes, Kale can also be used in salad, soup, stew and stir fry or be served as a side veg. We think kale is at its best when eaten freshly picked from the garden.
