Hollyhock Happy Lights

Hollyhock Happy Lights will light up your border with an impressive show of single blooms in a wide array of colours. Purple, white, red, pink, peach, and yellow shades all feature. This is a Ficofolia type with fig-like leaves that show good resistance to rust.  The towering flower spikes bring height and structure towards the back of your borders and act as a real magnet to bees and other pollinators. SOW: January to March for flowers this year or July to September to flower next year. Surface sow in a seed tray, pressing gently for contact. Cover with a fine layer of vermiculite or fine compost and pop in a warm place at around 15-20C.

GROW: when seedlings are large enough to handle transplant into individual pots. Spring raised plants can be planted out into a sunny border, spacing about 45 cm apart. Late summer or autumn raised plants can be overwintered in a cold frame and planted out the following spring. After flowering, cut plants back to encourage strong growth for the following year.

ENJOY: the tall spires of blooms bring a striking display to the garden, or cut a few for the vase. The open single flowers are especially attractive to bees and butterflies.
