Eschscholzia Peach Sorbet is stunning planted as a drift to get the full impact of the ruffled double flowers in those delicious peachy shades with touches of cream. These are a beautiful cut flower. They may last for under a week, but bringing a few indoors is the best way to get up close to them and really appreciate those colours and delicate petals. The double flowers are recognised by the RHS as good for pollinators.

🌸 Flowering: June to September
📏 Height: to 25cm
🌿 Short-lived perennial, best grown as an annual
💧 Drought tolerant once established

Sow: from mid-April (late March in a mild area) to May or August to October, where they are to flower, on open ground, barely covering the seeds. Germination takes 14-21 days. They like a well-drained site in a sunny position. You may need to thin them to about 10-15cm apart. Autumn sowings in a mild area with well-drained soil do well.

Grow: the flowers stay shut on cloudy days or at night. Sunlight is the key ingredient that opens them up. They thrive in poor, sandy or well-drained soils and handle dry conditions easily. Cut flowers regularly to encourage growth and to keep them flowering for longer. Deadhead if you do not want them to self-seed.

Enjoy: their colours are cool and calming. I've had them as a drift beside a hot patio where they can bake in the sun. Those soft peachy shades allow your eyes to rest and are a beautiful foil to more attention-grabbing colours.
