Tendergreen has gorgeous pencil pods that are produced in profusion. You may see a speckling of purple that disappears when cooked – the flavour remains excellent. Should you be in a hurry to enjoy these you can start the seeds with protection under cloches and they will crop earlier than almost any other variety
SOW: start these off in pots or modules placed in an unheated greenhouse or on a windowsill. Try as an early variety – starting in pots and planting out with protection from late April/early May (as soon as you think you have had your last frost). You can sow as late as July for a later harvest.
GROW: plant out after hardening off when about 15cm tall. This ia a dwarf variety and doesn't need support. French Beans are self-pollinating. They cope well with drier summers
ENJOY: picking young and cooking whole or sliced is probably the best way to enjoy these lovely beans.. You can leave the pods at the end of the season for drying, the dried beans are tasty in a winter casserole.
