This popular outdoor cucumber, Tanja, has lovely slim, bitter-free, refreshing fruits that are 25-35cm long. You can tie them in to grow on a trellis or wires and let the fruits dangle down. You and choose to grow them in a greenhouse or polytunnel should you wish to do so although they are robust enough for the outdoor life and heavy cropping.
This variety is part of our naturally nurtured range, the seed comes from an organic source
SOW: start seeds on their edge 1-2cm deep in pots during April & May. Water from the bottom with room temperature tap water to avoid damping off. Pot on when the first true leaves have formed. Harden off in May or June when frost danger is over.
GROW: cucumber stems are very delicate, be careful when transplanting & when tying in – a trellis of canes or a wigwam form a good support to tie the plants to as they grow. Water carefully (avoiding the stem) & start to harvest from late June.
ENJOY: for salads, cold summer soup or chop and mix with natural Greek style yogurt to your your own tzatziki or perhaps a raita to have with curry (pop in a kick of ginger!)
