Zucchini Italian Striped is easily overlooked at the end of our courgette list so if you have got as far as reading this you have discovered a hidden gem with a wonderful flavour.
This is a lovely traditional Italian favourite and it is simply delicious. They can be picked very young and small, cooked in the same way as asparagus and served with melted butter. You will not be disappointed
SOW: 1 seed per pot from late April to end of May, under cover or on a windowsill. Sow on their edge about 1cm below the surface. Keep moist but not waterlogged.
GROW: keep moist, but not waterlogged, harden off and plant out after all danger of frost has passed. In cooler areas you can protect young plants with cloches until they have settled in. Courgettes are trouble free and prolific - keep picking!
ENJOY: try sliced & pan fried or diced into an omelette. They can be picked young & small, cooked in the same way as asparagus & served with melted butter. To Freeze – slice or dice, (optional to blanch for 1 minute) pack into portions and freeze.
