With its larger, softer leaves, D’Orlanda offers excellent texture and mild flavour for salads year-round. This Italian variety grows well in cool conditions and can be picked young for tenderness or left to fill out slightly. A reliable option for anyone who wants a steady, good-looking harvest through the seasons.
This variety is part of our naturally nurtured range, the seed comes from an organic source
SOW: at almost any time of the year, best sown after midsummer through to early spring. Seed depth 5-10mm, sow under cover in late-winter, early-spring and autumn, at other times sow outside. We normally sow in situ as the plants are small.
GROW: this is very easy and generally a trouble-free crop. Harvest after about 12 weeks. You can cut the whole head and leave the plant to resprout (usually only once) or pick individual leaves as you need them – they do wilt quite quickly so we find it best to pick as needed.
ENJOY: mild flavour, super in salads and a good compliment to winter salad flavours. The flowers are also edible.
