Golden Gate is an AGM winner that has everything: heavy cropping with pods that have a marvellous snap quality and an exquisite flavour. Whilst the bright and attractive golden-yellow beans are easy to find amongst the leaves they do give the impression of pretending to be runners with their flat pods: but make no mistake this is a quality French bean just waiting for you.
Price for 50 seeds
This variety is part of our naturally nurtured range, the seed comes from an organic source
To be an AGM winner means that this variety has been outstanding in trials: it is sturdy, reliable and with great garden performance
SOW: start these off in pots or modules placed in an unheated greenhouse or even on a window during April or May (you can sow as late as July for a later harvest). You can opt to sow directly into the soil but you need to wait until mid-May as French beans don’t like cold soil & are not hardy.
This variety, Golden Gate, can be sown in a polytunnel or greenhouse from April – good news if you are growing in a cooler area of the UK where open growing is not so reliable.
GROW: plant out after hardening off when about 15cm tall after all frost danger has passed. They like to climb canes in a row or arranged as teepees. French Beans are self-pollinating. They also cope well with drier summers.
EAT & ENJOY: these fabulous beans are easy to find amongst the leafy greenery: bright, attractive golden-yellow and gorgeous! Simply cut into chunks before steaming (young beans can be cooked whole).
