Blauhilde has super, long, oval pods which stay beautifully tender. The plants are strong growing and you can expect a high yield.  Even when the pods grow quite large they remain scrummy.  As the end of the season approaches leave them to grow large and dry out for shelling.

Price for 50 seeds

This variety is part of our naturally nurtured range, the seed comes from an organic source

SOW: start these off in pots or modules (seed depth 40-50mm - 2nd knuckle) placed in an unheated greenhouse or even on a window during April or May. You can sow directly into the sol but wait until mid as they really do not like cold soil. You can sow as late as July for a later harvest.

GROW: plant out after hardening off when about 15cm tall after all frost danger has passed. Blauhilde is happy climbing canes in a row or arranged as teepees. French Beans are self pollinating. They also cope well with drier summers

EAT: pick young and cook whole (just top and tail), slice larger beans into 5cm lengths (no need to measure with a ruler, its about 3 finger widths!).  Leave the pods at the end of the season to grow larger still for drying. They are super in winter casseroles. All of our French beans freeze well, either when topped & tailed or sliced.  Store dried beans in an airtight container.
