Orange Tyger produces stunning slender chillies with an initial sharp burst of heat, followed by a citrus flavour and a long-lasting warmth (60,000–70,000 SHU). This layered pungency makes it a real standout. Plants are medium-sized and bushy, with good yields. Fruits ripen from bright lime-green to bold orange and look as good as they taste. Grows well in containers, a growhouse or conservatory – or outside in a warm, sunny, sheltered spot.
SOW: from mid-April to the end of May, indoors in warm compost. Sow into trays or modules, pressing seeds in lightly as they need light to germinate.
GROW: transplant at the 2–3 leaf stage into a greenhouse border, grow bag, or container. Can also be hardened off and grown outside in a warm, sheltered position. Grows into a bushy medium-sized plant. Fruits ripen from bright lime-green to vivid orange. Expect first fruits around 12 weeks from transplanting.
ENJOY: the complex heat and citrus notes work brilliantly in Thai-style cooking – try them chopped into a stir-fry with chicken, prawns or beef. Thin-walled fruits are also excellent for drying.
