Golden and generous, Midas is a lovely munchable chilli with mild heat (up to 500 SHU). The compact plants start cropping early and carry a heavy load of medium-sized fruits that are crisp, juicy, and gently spicy. Great for snacking straight off the plant or slicing into salads.
SOW: from February to April, indoors in warm compost. Sow in trays or modules, pressing seeds in lightly as they need light to germinate (can take 10–21 days – 21°C helps). Water the soil, not the foliage – too much moisture can rot seed and seedlings. Pot on at the 2–3 leaf stage (around 10cm tall). Harden off before moving outside in June to a sunny, sheltered spot, or grow in a greenhouse, grow bag, or large pot.
GROW: self-fertile, but you can help pollination indoors with a soft paintbrush. Water well and let the surface dry between times. Pinch out the growing tip to keep plants compact and productive, and support with a small stake. Once flowering starts, feed weekly, alternating between liquid seaweed and weak tomato feed.
ENJOY: fruits develop over a few weeks and ripen not long after. Pick regularly to keep the crop going. Midas delivers mild, juicy heat that’s perfect for salads, salsas, or snacking.
