Peppermint Stick celery has candy-pink stripes running the length of each stalk. It’s an unusual and very attractive heirloom to grow in the garden, full of intense celery flavour and aroma. Beautiful in salads and brilliant for fresh seasoning, it has a long harvest season, holds its colour when cooked, and is slow to bolt. Dare I say it, this really is a must-have variety.
Sow: March to June under cover. Celery needs light to germinate – sow seeds on the surface. Prick out into small pots when large enough to handle & grow on.
Grow: from late May plant after hardening off after all danger of frost has passed. Space plants 15-20cm apart. Fast growing & slow to bolt, this type of celery is shallow rooted and will appreciate regular watering and organic feed. Pick the outer stalks first and work your way to the centre.
Enjoy: show off the colour, make it the star of salads, vegetable platters with dips, and in slaws. Use for seasoning and cooking too.
