A top choice for steady harvesting, Celebrity is bolt-resistant, holds well once mature, and has great flavour. It’s also self-blanching – which means less fuss for you and tender, pale stems that are full of taste. A reliable, easygoing variety that’s well worth growing.
SOW: early spring in a propagator or from mid-spring under cover. Celery seeds need light to germinate – sow on the surface and don’t cover.
GROW: prick out into small pots when large enough to handle. Transplant at the 5–6 leaf stage after hardening off, once the danger of frost has passed. Celebrity is shallow rooted, so keep it well watered and feed regularly. Plant in a block at 15cm spacing to encourage self-blanching.
EAT & ENJOY: crisp and flavourful raw, or cooked into soups and stews. Freezes well too – ideal for winter casseroles.
