Carrot Solvita

Solvita has so much going for it, it might just become your new favourite. The roots have a sweet, aromatic flavour and grow with real vigour from the start. You can pull them young for tender early carrots, or leave them in the ground for autumn harvests – even through winter in many gardens. Blunt-ended, slightly conical, and medium in length, they’re easy to wash, peel, and slice.

SOW: from March to July, for a succession of these lovely carrots sow a little every 3 weeks. For early sowings from mid-Feb use cloches to warm the soil and protect your seedlings. Remember: first dig the soil well. Sow sparingly (seed depth no more than 10mm), 150 seeds sufficient for 2m. Carrots often germinate unevenly over a period of several weeks…

GROW: keep moist and weed free – they don’t like the competition.

EAT & ENJOY: start pulling young carrots when you can’t resist them any longer! These are great in salad or cut for dips. The main crop is autumn, and you can leave some in the soil right into the winter before pulling when ready to savour fresh winter veg!
