Royal Chantenay is a great choice for heavier soils, thanks to its shallow-growing, broad-shouldered roots. It combines a crisp, sweet flavour with excellent storage potential. Strong leafy tops make harvesting easy – just grab and give a good yank.
SOW: at no more than 10mm seep from May to July, with harvesting from June to October. Remember to well & sow sparingly to avoid the need for too much thinning.
GROW: their shallow growth makes them a good choice for container growing. Keep moist and weed free – they don’t like the competition.
ENJOY: best fresh from the ground, but stores well in the fridge for up to two weeks. For long-term use, blanch and freeze – slice larger roots or freeze baby carrots whole in handy portions.
