Carrot Oxhella

Oxhella is just a bit special; its roots lie in the French Heirloom ‘Oxheart’ and brings you all of those good qualities and more.  Flavour is lovely and aromatic.  The internal colour is strong throughout.  It is well suited to heavy or shallower soil (raised beds & containers).  The broad shoulders hint at the chunky conical shape forming below the soil.  Strong foliage makes pulling a breeze.  Each of those roots can be 12-16cm long.  The shape lets you slice evenly or create Julienne strips with ease.  These are a lovely variety for enjoying fresh, they store well too.
This variety is part of our naturally nurtured range, the seed comes from an organic source.

SOW: 10mm deep from March to May (dig the soil thoroughly first).   Sow sparingly to avoid the need for too much thinning and these will need their space as the shoulders can be 5cm or more across. 

GROW: happy in heavy soil and very suitable for raised beds or containers (roots 12-16cm long).  Keep carrots moist and weed free – they don’t like competition.  Oxhella likes 4 months or so for growing. Harvest this variety July to October.

ENJOY: lovely used fresh – sliced or turned into Julienne strips.    Can be stored in a fridge for up to 2 weeks. Oxhella store very well in boxes of damp sand in a frost-free, dark place such as a shed. To Freeze - slice, blanch for 3 minutes, plunge in cold water, drain and pack into convenient sized potions.
