Nantes produces strong, mid-length roots with a smooth skin, blunt ends, and excellent colour and texture. Flavour is reliably sweet and balanced. It’s one of the best choices for a long sowing season – start seeds every 2–3 weeks for a steady supply all summer and into autumn. The blunt ends mean very little waste in the kitchen.
This variety is part of our naturally nurtured range, the seed comes from an organic source
SOW: 10mm deep from March to August (dig the soil well first & sow sparingly to avoid the need for too much thinning). Sowing in early spring before mid-March (warm the soil with the cloches) or after late June can help avoid carrot fly trouble.
GROW: keep moist and weed free – they don’t like the competition. Nantes can be harvested from May to October (after 8-12 weeks growing time).
EAT & ENJOY: best when pulled fresh, but stores well in the fridge for up to two weeks. For longer storage, blanch and freeze – slice larger roots or freeze baby carrots whole in handy portions.
