Much sought after for its rich, sweet flavour, Jaune De Doubs is a traditional French heirloom from the Doubs region. It produces long, slender, tapered roots in a warm yellow shade that really stands out in the garden or on the plate.
This variety takes around 10 weeks to mature and stores well after harvest, making it a great choice if you like to grow in batches and keep a steady supply.
SOW: at no more than 10mm deep from March to early July, but early spring before mid-March or late June/July can avoid the worst of the carrot fly. For early sowings warm the soil with the cloches before sowing. Remember to dig the soil thoroughly & sow sparingly to avoid the need for too much thinning.
GROW: allow about 10 weeks before pulling. Keep moist and weed free – they don’t like the competition.
EAT: enjoy the flavour when pulled fresh from the garden. They can be stored in a poly bag in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. These carrots also freeze well.
