Dragon is a real beauty with its fiery magenta-purple skin and sweet flavour. Slice it open and you’ll find a bright orange to yellow core—a proper eye-catcher. The roots are smooth and easy to clean, usually around 12–18cm long. Just give them a quick scrub and steam, or cut into batons for dipping. Tasty, colourful, and a bit different—too good to miss.
SOW: prepare a seed drill, water and allow to drain before sowing. Seed depth 10mm, sow April to July, with harvesting from June to October. In milder areas you can sow & harvest a little earlier. Sow sparingly to avoid the need for too much thinning.
GROW: they take up to 21 days to germinate so you can mark where they are by sowing alternate rows with a much faster crop … a baby leaf or an oriental variety are good choices as they will be harvested before they can possibly shade or crowd your carrots. Keep moist but too much water encourages leaves instead of the roots! After 12 or so weeks pull a single carrot to check size then away you go.
