Amsterdam Forcing is a great early carrot—perfect for sowing under cloches to get a head start in the season. You can also sow it in batches right up to July for a longer harvest. Pull young for sweet baby carrots, or leave them to size up. It’s a good one for the freezer too.
SOW & GROW: early spring to July at no more than 10mm deep: early sowings before mid-March or late June/July can avoid the worst of the carrot fly. Sow sparingly to avoid the need for too much thinning. Early sowings should be made under cloches: dig the soil thoroughly and then warm using cloches for at least a week before sowing. Keep moist and weed free as they don’t like competition.
ENJOY: enjoy the flavour when pulled fresh from the garden. Carrots can be stored in a poly bag in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. To Freeze - slice or dice larger carrots, freeze baby carrots whole, blanch for 3 minutes, plunge in cold water, drain and pack into convenient sized potions.
