SOW: you’ve got a few choices for sowing Calendula 'Wintersun'—start undercover in March–April, or direct sow outdoors in April–May. You can also get a head start on next year’s blooms by sowing again in late August–September. Sow seeds about 15mm deep, and they should pop up in around 2 weeks.
GROW: once they’re ready to go out, space plants about 10–15cm apart. They’re a great pick for greenhouse borders too—people say they help repel pests, which is always a win. The soft yellow blooms, up to 7cm wide, look especially lovely when planted in drifts, showing off all their subtle natural variations.
ENJOY: these make beautiful cut flowers with a surprisingly good vase life — indulege yourself or to share. Keep deadheading and, from a May sowing, you could be enjoying blooms well into November.
