Cabbage Golden Acre

Golden Acre is a compact and tasty ballhead cabbage, perfect for smaller plots. It has a long season and the brilliant bonus of giving you a second crop. Sow as early as February (with protection), and you’ll be harvesting from late May right through to early November.

SOW: start in pots or modules from February (with protection) through to July. Sow seeds 10–15mm deep, then transplant after 5–6 weeks. Early plants will need cloches or fleece. Space at 30cm apart for good air flow and sturdy growth.

GROW: you can enjoy two cabbages from each plant! ut the first head cleanly, then make a cross in the stump—this encourages fresh shoots that grow into a second, smaller cabbage.

ENJOY: keeps well for up to a week in the fridge in a poly bag. We like it steamed, but it’s also great boiled or blanched. For freezing: shred or chop, blanch for 1 minute, cool in cold water, drain, and freeze.
