Cabbage Copenhagen Market Early

Dating from 1909 Copenhagen Market Early is a scrumptious heirloom that is best grown in the cooler seasons of spring and autumn – giving you two bites each year. In the spring grow them to be small tender cabbages ready as soon as they feel firm to the touch. Grow them larger in the autumn and they will tough it out with the weather into the new year.

SOW & GROW: 10mm deep in pots or modules March to early May or chose to sow from late July to mid-September. When large enough to handle, harden off & plant out setting the plants 1-2cm deeper than they were in their pots & firm them in. In spring plant 20-25cm apart in autumn space at 30cm as they need to grow a bit longer and larger to cope with the early winter weather – they may need a bit of protection if it turns particularly harsh.  Your spring plants are ready for harvest as soon as they feel firm to the touch about 9-10 weeks after planting out.

ENJOY: use them fresh for crunchy salads and coleslaw or lightly steam them.
