Groninger is an AGM-winning variety that gives you a steady supply of tasty sprouts through late autumn and into winter. Sown in March or April, it grows best with a slow and steady pace. You can harvest as needed, or ‘stop’ the plant to get your crop all at once—handy if you’re planning to freeze some.

This is an older open-pollinated variety, so expect a bit of variation—most sprouts will be nice and tight, and any loose ones are perfect for stews.

This variety is part of our naturally nurtured range, the seed comes from an organic source

Why the AGM?
The RHS Award of Garden Merit means Groninger stood out in trials: sturdy, reliable, and a great all-round performer in the garden.

SOW: in March & April for a main crop from November to early January. Sow 10–20mm deep in small pots, then transplant after hardening off when seedlings are about 15cm tall.

GROW: plant into firm soil, spacing 60–90cm apart—closer spacing gives smaller sprouts. Make good use of the gaps with fast-growing crops. In windy spots, be ready to stake. A mid-summer feed helps, and sprouts do best with slow, steady growth in moist (not dry) soil.

EAT & ENJOY: pick from the bottom up. For a single harvest, 'stop' the plant by removing the top-most sprout in midsummer—this helps the rest mature at once. Don’t forget to cook the sprout tops once harvesting’s done!
