Evesham Special is a well-known traditional variety, and we reckon the flavour’s not just special—it’s excellent. Sow in April or May for a harvest from September through to December. Vigorous and hardy, it’s a firm favourite with many growers.
SOW: in April and May for crops September through to December. Start in modules or pots (5-10mm seed depth) & plant out, after hardening off, when about 15cm tall
GROW: plant out into firm soil, space at 60-90cm – close spacing will create smaller sprouts. If your garden is windy you may need to stake your Brussels. Use the space between them to grow fast maturing or cut-and-come-again crops. In summer they like a dose of general fertiliser.
ENJOY: pick the lowest buttons first and work your way up! At the end of the crop the sprout tops can be eaten as greens (delicious). We like sprouts steamed and cook the tops like cabbage. They will last in the fridge for up to 3 days.
