Beautifully sweet from baby roots right through to full size, Bona is a pleasure to grow. The smooth skin makes washing easy, and the rich, deep red flesh is packed with flavour. Harvest anytime from June to October for reliable, tender roots.

SOW your beetroot seeds 10-20mm deep. Use cloches to warm the soil for early sowings (that is during February to April or a little later in colder areas). Once your soil has started to warm (from April in milder areas) you can sow without protection. Sow seed every 4-6 weeks for a continuous supply of beets

GROW: beet seeds are actually a cluster and will require thinning, alternatively pull some for use when young & leave the rest to grow on.  These thinning can be eaten in salads.  Keep your beetroot weed free and try not to let the soil dry out.  Allow about 12 weeks growing time for mature roots.

ENJOY: the key feature for Bona is its natural sweetness - perfect in a salad (perhaps served with a dollop of sour cream) or use in cake.  You can also roast them, pop in a risotto or frittata or create a rich soup.
