SOW & GROW
Start seeds in spring using pots or modules. Cover lightly with perlite or vermiculite, then pop them in a clear plastic bag to keep the moisture in. Keep them somewhere warm—around 18°C is ideal—and they should sprout in 1–2 weeks. Once you see seedlings, take the bag off.

Alternatively, you can sow them straight into a prepared seed bed outdoors in May, as long as nights aren’t dipping below 10°C. In the open, germination takes a bit longer—around 2–3 weeks.

Once your young plants are up and growing, harden them off before planting out in the garden. Make sure all risk of frost has passed, then space them about 20–30cm apart. They love a sunny spot with soil that drains well.

In milder areas, you might even find they grow back year after year!
