Sunflowers are pure good mood plants. With this collection, you can grow a sea of uplifting blooms that bring warmth, colour and joy wherever they’re planted. Whether you want height, richness of colour or something a little different, these varieties work beautifully together to create a bold, summery display.

 

Bees and other pollinators flock to the nectar-rich flowers, and once the blooms fade, finches and other birds soon arrive to feed on the seed heads through autumn and winter. Sunflowers are a brilliant choice for wildlife-friendly borders, cutting gardens, or anywhere that could do with a splash of sunshine.

They also help attract beneficial insects into the garden, and if you’re tempted, sunflower seeds can be enjoyed by humans too. Few people can resist roasting their own.

 

Autumn Beauty – multi-headed plants with large blooms, 10 to 20cm across, in a stunning mix of warm, earthy shades including gold, bronze, brown and burgundy. Height 180-250cm. (20 seeds)

Chocolat – fabulous, rich and opulent, with deep chocolate-coloured petals touched with hints of gold.  Growing to 70 to 100cm these are perfect for the front of your sunflower sea. Shorter does not mean less impressive, with blooms up to 12 to 15cm across. (15 seeds)

Red Sun – vibrant and eye-catching, with deep red petals surrounding dark centres. Strong stems carry the flowers to around 150cm, making them ideal for adding drama and contrast. (15 seeds)

Tall Single – the archetypal classic sunflower for height and impact. A bold statement plant that can reach up to 300cm, or around 10 feet, when grown well. (20 seeds)

Vanilla Ice – a striking sunflower with a rich, dark centre surrounded by creamy yellow petals that fade softly towards their tips. Strong-stemmed and branching, making it ideal for cutting as well as garden display. Height to 200cm. (20 seeds)  

Velvet Queen – new to our range this year. Irresistible copper-bronze petals with flashes of orange and gold create a rich, dramatic look. A truly opulent sunflower that brings depth and warmth to the garden. Height to 170cm. (15 seeds)

 

🌻 Secrets to success
• grow in full sunshine, ideally in a sheltered spot such as against a sunny wall or fence
• enrich the soil with good compost to provide plenty of nutrients
• water steadily and deeply. A sunken, bottomless bottle or a short length of pipe helps get water down to the roots, encouraging strong anchoring and healthier plants
