Orinoco is a real stunner — a golden yellow wax bean that’s as beautiful as it is tasty. The pods grow to around 13cm and can be used whole or sliced into fine-cut beans. With its lovely flowers that draw in pollinators and its eye-catching, edible pods, Orinoco is perfect for growing in pots, along borders, or as a pretty, productive edge in your veg patch.
SOW: start these off in pots or modules placed in an unheated greenhouse or even on a window during April or May. You can sow directly into the soil but wait until mid-May as they really do not like cold soil. You can sow as late as July for a later harvest.
GROW: plant out after hardening off when about 15cm tall after all frost danger has passed. Orinoco, being a dwarf variety, does not require support. French Beans are self-pollinating. They cope well with drier summers. With this variety you can look forward to a high yield, and their colour makes the pods easy to find amongst the leaves!
ENJOY: pick young and cook whole or sliced or leave the pods at the end of the season for drying. They are super in winter casseroles. All of our French beans freeze well.
