Cayenne Long Slim produces slender fruits up to 13cm long, with a heat level that’s hot, hot – but not too hot. At 20,000–50,000 SHU, they’ve got a good kick without being overpowering. The chillies are slightly wrinkled, thin-skinned and ideal for drying. Plants stay compact at around 60cm tall and crop well.
SOW: from mid-April to end of May. Use warm compost and barely cover the seeds – they need light to germinate.
GROW: when they reach the 2/3 leaf stage, move them into a greenhouse or harden off and plant outside in a warm, sheltered spot. Grow in soil, containers or grow bags. Keep picking to encourage more fruits – they’ll keep going until the first frosts.
EAT & ENJOY: these chillies mature from green to fiery red, getting hotter as they go. Use them fresh (they’ll keep for up to 3 weeks in the fridge), add to sauces and casseroles, dry and grind into powder, or freeze for later.
