Basil Licorice offers a subtle aniseed flavour that pairs beautifully with a range of dishes—from fruit-based recipes like apple crumble, to fish, tomato dishes, and even Asian stir-fries. It's also a standout in pasta and salads, where its unique colour adds visual appeal as well as flavour.
For the best taste, harvest leaves before the plant flowers. To keep plants productive, prune regularly, always leaving at least three pairs of leaves to encourage healthy regrowth.
🌱 Seasonal Growing Guide
SPRING
- Sow seeds in pots or plug trays (avoid shallow seed trays) during spring.
- Use bottom heat for early sowings, or wait until mid-spring when temperatures rise naturally.
- Water well in the morning to avoid excess moisture overnight.
- Transplant seedlings once they’re large enough to handle and the risk of frost has passed.
SUMMER
- Once the plant starts flowering, the leaves can lose some of their flavour. Pinch out flower buds to keep the plant focused on producing fresh, flavourful leaves. Be sure to leave at least three sets of leaves to encourage resprouting.
AUTUMN
- Bring a pot indoors for continued use.
- Dig up and compost garden plants, and start planning for next season.
ENJOY: this basil is subtle, versatile and beautiful
