First listed in 1908 this heirloom is still going strong: each pod packed with sweet, tender peas. It is considered a dwarf (40-50cm but sometimes taller) and can be grown under cloches for early crops. I love them picked and shelled as soon as the pods swell but even if left a bit longer before you find them they are still sweet. They are gorgeous in salads but only if you stop yourself from eating them all whilst picking – if you can resist then they also freeze well. We have picked in less than 10 weeks from sowing. 1st Early.
