Tomato Matina naturally nurtured seed

Matina remains a very popular salad choice, its delicious, early to fruit (even grown outdoors), with golf ball size fruits (40-70g) that are resistant to splitting. Unusually it is a potato-leafed variety and it’s an heirloom choice.  Don’t just take my word for it…Which? determined this as a Best Buy writing “The fruits retain a faint aroma of the vine and their lovely taste balances stronger sweet, savoury and fresh flavours with mild acidity”.  It is a quintessential tomato in looks and flavour.

SOW: start about 6-8 weeks before the last frost is expected sowing in modules (cover or put on a windowsill).  We transplant to pots when large enough to handle and grow on until ready to harden off - plant after frost danger has passed.

GROW: plant in in a sunny sheltered part of your garden or the greenhouse.  It is early to set, the earliest of all the outdoor toms.  Matina is indeterminate and can grow tall, it will need supporting.  It will bloom, set new fruit and ripen fruit all at the same time throughout the season.  And those strange leaves… it’s a potato leaf variety!
