SOW:  at any time, protection needed from late autumn to early spring.  At these times it can be grown in a cool greenhouse, cold frame or under cloches.  Sow in modules (you can then space plants out) or sow thinly in situ.

GROW: keep watered, plants are ready to harvest after just 6 – 8 weeks.  Picking frequently encourages new growth and discourages bolting in warmer weather.  You can treat it as cut and come again – cutting about 3cm above the ground.

EAT: super in salads; you can also steam leaves, use them in sauces or stir fry them.  Young leaves have a milder flavour.  The flowers are edible and nicely flavoured – they also look lovely as a salad decoration.
