Kelvedon Wonder is an old favourite has stood the test of time and has an AGM. With no need to support this dwarf variety you can look forward to excellently flavoured peas from tightly filled pods. This can also be sown as a first early.

SOW: can be started in February for an early crop or sown up to late May/early June. We start our peas in pots to give them a fighting chance against the mice and then plant them outside. They can be sown in situ; for early sowing use cloches to warm the soil up first and give them that little bit of protection while they get going.
GROW: pot grown plants need to be hardened off before planting out at about 12cm apart each way. Peas like moisture and will tolerate light shade. You should only need to water in dry summers, not too much while they are young but a little more once they start to flower. Pick regularly to encourage more growth.
EAT: our peas often don’t get as far as the basket let alone the kitchen – shelled and eaten as they are picked
