Red Kingdom has stunning broad claret coloured leaves.  These have a contrasting green underside with purple veins.  The flavour is milder than most other mustard leaf choices – this is the one to try for adding colour with just a hint of spice to your summer salads.  Why not create a cucumber raita with diced cucumber, natural yogurt and chopped Red Kingdom leaves   Price for 50 seeds

 

SOW: from spring to autumn.  Starting the seeds in modules (at 5mm deep) enables you to transplant at the 2/3 leaf stage for growing mature leaves from 6 weeks

 

GROW: as a cut-&-come-again or for baby leaf these are best sown in situ at 5mm deep.  Create sowing trough 5mm deep and 5-10 cm wide by 30cm long.  Scatter your seeds in the trough and gently cover.  When the leaves are 7-15cm tall you can snip them off.  They should resprout for a second cut, keep them watered in dry weather

 

EAT: a colourful addition to your summer salad choices with just a hint of spice.  Mature leaves can be cooked – wilt or shred and toss in a stir fry for the last minute or so.
