Vigorous and growing into almost identical round bulbs, Bonus F1 has sweet tones making it a great choice for salads. Another bonus is that it is less pungent so kind on the eyes whilst chopping and slicing both for eating raw or cooking! Finally there is another bonus… it shows high tolerance to downy mildew. Hard to beat this variety.
Price for 60 seeds
SOW: either in situ in April (sparingly 1cm deep in rows about 30cm apart but warm the soil first under cloches as cold soil upsets germination), or sow late winter/early spring in trays or modules, prick out when seedlings are still bent over into individual pots. Move to a cold frame to harden off in April.
GROW: space at 15-20cm apart (gradually thin outdoor rows to this spacing). Keep well-watered as the bulb swells. Ready to harvest from mid-August when they reach the size you want.
EAT: gorgeous fresh in salads or for cooking, these onions freeze well too.
