Madre Vieja – are you ready for a flavour explosion? Think hot and fruity with hints of grapefruit and a fruity/floral aroma: 10,000-30,000SHU. And if you thought that C.baccatum are on the tall side think again… Madre Vieja has shorter gaps between the leaf nodes so grows more compact - planted into a 3lt (19cm) pot your plant will reach about 90cm tall. And this is a plant that keeps on giving, productive with a long growing season and a good choice to overwinter. The crisp and juicy chillies mature from light green to a deep yellow/orange, enjoy fresh or make delicious sauces, ideal for drying or freezing too. Price for 10 seeds
SOW: from February to May, indoors in a warm soil in trays or modules barely covering the seeds as they need light to germinate. At 2/3 leaf stage pot on to 7cm pots and at 10cm tall move up to a 19cm (3ltr) or slightly larger pot.
GROW: in pots the plants will stay compact to about 90cm whilst being productive. Pot grown plants are easier to move for overwintering. Alternatively grow in a greenhouse or a raised bed in a warm spot.
