Don’t let this little chilli fool you: it is one of the hottest in the world at around 425,000 Scoville Units. The fruits have a unique rich flavour which develops as they mature from bright green to chocolate brown, they will keep producing into the early winter with protection. Just remember that Habanero Chocolate is HOT – you have been warned!   Price for 10 seeds

SOW: from January with warmth to mid-April, also possible to end of May when harvest will be later and plants may need protecting.  Start the seeds indoors in a warm soil in trays or modules barely covering the seeds as they need light to germinate.

GROW: when they reach the 2/3 leaf stage they can be planted into a greenhouse or hardened off and put outside in a warm sheltered spot.  You can grow them in the soil, in a container or in a grow bag.  Be prepared to protect late sown plants as the temperature cools in the autumn.

EAT: with caution unless you are a heat lover – drink some milk to cool your mouth! Chillies can be used fresh, dried or ground into powder.  They also freeze well.
