This variety is a bit special with a particularly sweet flavour.  It is also a very versatile choice: Milan can be sown early for some of the first carrots of the season whilst a late sowing produces a crop that stores well.  From sowing to harvest takes about 12 weeks.  Price for 150 seeds.

SOW:  10mm deep from February to August, but early spring before mid-March or from July can avoid the worst of the carrot fly.  For early sowings warm the soil with the cloches before sowing or wait for warmer weather.  Dig the soil well first & sow sparingly to avoid lots of thinning.

GROW: Milan needs about 12 weeks to reach a good size but can be pulled earlier for baby sized roots.  Keep moist and weed free: they don’t like the competition.

EAT: enjoy some of the first carrots of the season from an early sowing whilst a late sowing produces a crop that stores well.  You can use boxes of damp sand but blanching and freezing is probably more convenient for many people
