Berns nns – this is a tasty new open pollinated variety, a gently pointed summer cabbage that lends itself to repeat sowings to give you a crop into the autumn. The medium sized heads, with their with darker leaves, are resistant to splitting and flavoursome. This is a great new choice joining our range.

SOW: seed depth 10mm, start in modules or pots from late January to end of June. Repeat sow* every few weeks for crops into the autumn.
GROW: about 5/6 weeks after sowing, when large enough to handle, harden off and plant out. Space at 35cm for smaller summer heads and 40-45cm for slightly larger later heads. Early cabbages from June with your last later sown plants cropping into October.
EAT: store in a poly bag for up to a week in a fridge. We prefer to steam our cabbage, but you can cook it in boiling water. To Freeze – shred or cut, blanch for 1 minute, plunge into cold water and drain.
*Repeat sow – you can sow every 2-3 weeks so you have cabbages maturing over a longer period or you can time your sowing for a specific crop. For Berns sowing in Jan/Feb should crop in June time (approximately 4 months) so a sowing in March should crop July time. A last sowing in June/ early July should crop into October (expect faster growth in warm weather and your cabbages will need careful watering).
