Baby leaf Quinoa has a mild flavour with a hint of nuttiness. These young leaves can be used in salads, sandwiches, smoothies or cooked (as you would spinach). Rapid germination and growth mean that this is a speedy green that is packed full of the nutrients that have given Quinoa its ‘superfood’ status and you can grow and enjoy all this goodness from pots on your windowsill (or a container in the garden).
Price for 400 seeds
SOW & GROW: on a windowsill or under glass at any time of the year, outdoors from April. Use pots on the windowsill, sowing a little each week for a supply of the nutritious leaves. You can start indoors and transplant or sow directly outside. For all the seed depth is 5mm and they need to be kept moist to germinate (3-5 days).
HARVEST & ENJOY: simply cut off individual leaves as needed or, if growing in a pot, harvest the whole lot when 10-15cm tall by cutting through the stems – tip the compost out in your garden and sow your next pot of seeds! Young tender leaves are perfect in salads, sandwiches, smoothies… or cook as you would spinach. If left plants can be 1-2m tall and produce edible seeds in the autumn!
