Sulu is an extra speedy lime-green oakleaf: just 29 days (that’s a shade over 4 weeks) to reach the perfect size and with a fab flavour. Don’t panic that this isn’t a ‘blink and miss it’ variety – grow them on and discover that they are just as nice when they reach full size. Price for 150 seeds.
SOW & GROW: a small pinch in a pot at any time of the year or a short row (30cm long) once the soil is workable. For a family you will need 2 short rows at a time. For a continuous supply you need to sow repeatedly every 10-14 days. Shallow rooted and hungry your baby leaves will enjoy rich compost and need to be kept moist. In spring & summer your baby leaf Sulu is ready in about 29 days. At cooler times of the year they will take a little longer. Space plants at a minimum of 20cm apart if you want to grow them on to a larger size.
EAT: make the most of the fresh lime green colour in salad mixes to add more contrast (and flavour of course).
Combine with dark green, red or purple leaves to accentuate the contrasting colours in your salads for a visual feast as well as a tasty one!
