First introduced in the 1890s Detroit Globe has smooth skinned roots that are a bright purple-red once cooked. It won’t give you a uniform crop but never mind, the flavour is what you are really after. It is a perfect choice for autumn beets and it stores well, harvest young in the summer for sweet salad beets. The short leafy top growth can also make a tasty crop. Price for 50 seeds.
SOW your beetroot seeds 10-20mm deep. Use cloches to warm the soil for early sowings (that is during February to April or a little later in colder areas).
