Magnificent indeed, full of flavour just these three varieties could give you a crop to shout out loud about from July right through to the following May: that is 11 months of the year. Now that really is a magnificent achievement in anyone’s garden – and it could be you! Each packet has 50 seeds
Blue Solaise ~ I love this variety, through the winter it is there promising much and then delivering from March to May with deep blue/purple leaves on a thick white stem, very hardy
Elefant ~ excellently flavoured long thick shanks. This hardy and reliable variety will over-winter, standing in good condition for up to six months from October. This is the variety you can experiment with: try earthing some up or blanching with tubes for a milder flavour and see what you prefer.
Hannibal ~ this is the fasted to crop from a February sowing, from July you can be enjoying tasty, large, thick, medium to long shanks
Jolant ~ lovely mild flavour, a well-deserved winner of an AGM. This is the variety to choose for harvesting from August, it can also be grown specifically for mini-leeks to pull when pencil thick…roast or braise or use for a very mild onion flavour in a salad.
