This heirloom variety has a delightful taste, rich in flavour with a firm texture that makes it great for slicing and for eating straight from the vine. The fruits are a vivid red and about ping pong ball sized. Ace 55 is considered a determinate but we have found it will continue to grow indefinitely until frost!
SOW: we start ours about 6-8 weeks before the last frost is expected sowing in modules (cover or put on a windowsill). We transplant to pots when large enough to handle and grow on until ready to harden off and plant after frost danger has passed.
GROW: plant in the greenhouse or in a sunny sheltered part of your garden. For the best flavour keep soil evenly damp (don’t over-water or overfeed). Just to be different Ace 55 is considered a determinate (stops growing when fruit sets on the top bud and they all ripen at about the same time). However we find that this variety continued to grow until the frosts!
EAT: very good slicer or just eat them!
