Reddy is a delicious red skinned salad onion for spring sowing to give you both flavour and colour in your salads and cooking. You can pull as needed and enjoy as a spring onion with the bonus of leaving some to bulb for harvesting later in the year. Alternatively close space for spring onions and space wider for bulbing onions as these will need to be 5-10cm apart
Price for 100 seeds
SOW: from March to May in the open (allows time to bulb). Can also be sown in June & July for non-bulbing scallions
GROW: sow thinly at about 10mm deep in rows to minimise thinning seeds at about 20-30mm apart. Sowing at intervals of about 3 weeks will give you a succession of onions to pull. For bulbing onions simply pull alternate plants to increase the spacing in between or, if planning on a bulbing crop, allow 5-10cm spacing between seeds.
EAT: pull as needed. We love these raw in our salads but we also freeze spring onions (that we have first cut into strips) to add to oriental dishes throughout the year. Bulbed onions can be used as picklers if so desired, or for salads and cooking.
