Comfrey ~ grow and make liquid plant food, 1.5kg per 1m of potato trench adds nutrition to your growing spuds, mulch your fruit with a 5cm layer of chopped leaves, make your own potting mix using leaf mould and comfrey in layers with a little garden lime (takes 3-6 months but well worth the effort), and finally Comfrey flowers are rich in pollen and nectar ad are a favourite of bumble bees.
Phacelia ~ after 1-2 months (whilst still small & soft) chop it down and either compost the greenery and chop and dig in the roots or chop up the whole lot and dig in. Phacelia is a nitrogen holder – you will be adding nitrogen to your compost heap or soil – use for any bed in a crop rotation plan
White Field Mustard ~ after 1-2 months (before flowering) chop it down and dig in: this will increase the organic matter in your soil, enriching the humus and thus you are maintaining or improving your soil structure for next year
