Why not use Hi Crop F1 as a cut-and-come-again cabbage?!
Hi Crop doesn’t heart up so you can pull individual leaves from the centre as needed over a long period of time or take the whole head as a spring green. With a lovely flavour, either cooked or raw (young leaves), this vigorous grower (to 45cm) will earn its keep many times over.
Price for 20 seeds
SOW & GROW: from March to May, or in mild areas you can sow in August for harvesting in the winter. Sow the seeds approximately 10-20mm deep in modules. When 10-15cm tall harden off & transplant – set 1.5cm deeper than they were - spacing 35cm apart. Hi Crop grows to around 45cm tall, pick from the centre of the plant as needed, it doesn’t heart. Water well in hot dry spells. It grows well in cool weather but for winter needs to be protected in a polytunnel, cold frame or greenhouse.
EAT: start picking after about 8 weeks
AND IN THE WINTER… late summer sown or planted collards can be wintered in cold frames, polytunnels or in cold frames, or even in the open in mild regions – although they grow well in cool conditions Hi Crop does not appreciate freezing temperatures!
